How would you counsel Christians struggling with anxiety in hard times?
In terms of the big picture, always remember that Christ said, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).
Throughout history, Christianity has survived and thrived under dictatorships, persecution, democracies, monarchies, and so on. In every conceivable culture and political environment, Christianity has survived and thrived because Christ will build His church. So, do not get overly anxious.
It is tremendously important for us to be part of a local church, to gather regularly and be encouraged by the faith of others. Then, we must cultivate our own individual Christian life through prayer and Bible reading so that we are constantly reminded that God is in charge. God knows the end from the beginning, and He accomplishes all things according to the counsel of His will for good, for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. These are hard times, and it’s not surprising that some folks are very anxious. God is in charge, however, and He will comfort us individually while bringing this world to His end.
