Throughout her history, the church has been forced to fight those who have attempted to ground justification on human merit and works or some combination of faith and merit. This conflict came to a head in the Western church during the sixteenth-century Reformation. In this lecture, Carl Trueman explains the importance of maintaining the doctrine of justification by faith alone.
