The medieval church thought His grace could be purchased, that His rule could be exhibited through an impenitently corrupt institution. The God of surprises chose, however, one neurotic monk to change the world.

Dr. Stephen J. Nichols is president of Reformation Bible College, chief academic officer for Ligonier Ministries, and a Ligonier Ministries teaching fellow.
