What Would You Say to a Christian Who Rejects the Inerrancy of Scripture?
There are some professing Christians who believe the Bible contains errors. What should we say to them? Today, hear the response R.C. Sproul gave when he was asked to speak to this issue.
NATHAN W. BINGHAM: This week, we go back into the archives to one of our live events and we get to hear Dr. Sproul's answer when he was asked, What would he say to a Christian who rejects the inerrancy of Scripture?
DR. R.C. SPROUL: Well, I think there are lots of people who are Christians who don't believe in the inerrancy of Scripture. I think they should. I think they've been misinformed. And I think that they may retain the essence of the Christian faith, but they don't have the bene esse, the well-being of the Christian church. There is a serious shortfall in their lives by failing to come to grips with the absolute authority of the Word of God in their lives.
And so, when you negotiate inerrancy, you set yourself at sea and you are subject to the winds of every doctrine being blown to and fro and so on. I think it's a very important doctrine, and even though it's one that is ridiculed and attacked and despised in our day and age, I think we have to be very careful to study this matter and to maintain a high view of biblical authority.
I don't want a view of the Bible that's any higher than Jesus' view, and I don't want to have any view of the Bible that's any lower than Jesus' view.
