Why Should Christians Learn about How God Is at Work in Other Regions of the World?
Around the world, Jesus is building His church and bringing people to Himself. Today, Voddie Baucham explains why it’s important for every Christian to be engaged with how God is at work in the global body of Christ.
NATHAN W. BINGHAM: Joining us this week on the Ask Ligonier podcast is Dr. Voddie Baucham. He serves as the dean of the School of Divinity at African Christian University in Zambia. Dr. Baucham, why should Christians learn about how God is at work in other regions of the world and not just look at their home country or home locality?
DR. VODDIE BAUCHAM: That’s a great question, and I think one reason we need to do it is because we need to have a bigger view of God. We need to get out of ourselves. We do have this tendency to think about God and think about His work only in terms of what He’s doing in me and for me, and that inward focus is not healthy.
The second reason that it’s beneficial to look at what God’s doing globally is because there are opportunities. There may be a door that God opens up for you to be a part of that work, or to support that work, or whatever.
And then finally: because we are part of the church in a global sense. We belong to one another, and we need to be praying for one another and be aware of how we can support one another, at least in prayer, in different parts and aspects of the world. I think, for example, about brothers and sisters who are persecuted in various parts of the world.
So, for at least those reasons, it’s very important and immensely helpful to have a more global perspective.
