Christmas Cannot Be Concealed

No matter how hard people may try, they cannot conceal the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ, God in the flesh. Today, R.C. Sproul encourages us to rejoice in the One who was born to redeem us.

You know, I hear people complain all the time about “We need to put Christ back in Christmas.” It seems like the whole religious significance of Christmas has been hijacked by the secular culture with all the glitz and the glamour, and we’ve seen the complete profanation of Christmas.

I sometimes think Jesus looks down at these crazy people, watching what they’re doing with their illuminated deer in the front yard and Santa Claus and all that, and He’s saying, “Look at this. No matter how hard they try, they cannot get rid of My birthday.”

I love Christmas, and I don’t care how glitzy they get with it, as long as we get to sing our carols and tell the story of the One who was born to redeem us. He accomplished everything the Father gave Him to do. He completed the mission for which He was born.

My favorite carol is “Silent Night,” but what was silent about that night? I don’t think that was all that quiet, with all that noise going out there in the plains of Bethlehem with the heavenly angels singing, “Glory to God in the highest,” wasn’t very silent. But it certainly was holy because that’s the night God came in the flesh.
