Whenever we admire God’s creation, we can be reminded of His power and authority over all things. Today, R.C. Sproul describes how the heavens and the earth declare the sovereignty of God.
When God creates, He also regulates what He creates. Built into this creation is not simply an act of grace, but also authority. The God who creates, the God who sustains, is the God who rules and has dominion, and sovereignty, and authority over this whole sphere.
And the sphere of His creation, the sphere of His authority is what? The heaven and the earth—everything. All that He makes, He governs. All that He makes, He sustains. And so built into the notion of creation are the seeds for the doctrine of providence.
Creation and providence are inseparably related. The authority of God is rooted and grounded in this act of creation. We are His creatures. It is He that has made us and not we ourselves. It’s because we are not God and that He is God, that He is the sovereign authority.
