Many cities have ordinances or laws to preserve certain aesthetic qualities that have been developed there. Beatification committees are assembled, and some towns and cities have even outlawed things like neon signs, front-yard flagpoles and pink flamingos. All these measures are designed to ensure a better city for its citizens. But these measures cannot hide the ugliness of sin, pain, and death. Man is helpless in that endeavor. We need a divine renovation. God alone is the only one who can accomplish that. In this message, Dr. Sproul considers this thought as he talks about the future plans for the New Jerusalem, which God has promised to be “A Better City.”
