Not only is sin so serious that its penalty is death, but it is also universal in scope, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). In Romans 1, Paul condemned the idolatry and immorality of the nations, and in Romans 2, he charges the Israelites with not keeping the law.
