God’s Freedom and Ours

Our freedom is limited by God’s freedom, not the other way around. Today, R.C. Sproul clarifies how the sovereignty of God relates to the freedom of the human will.
Sometimes I hear Christians say that God's sovereignty is limited by human freedom. When I hear these things, I make certain assumptions. The first assumption I make, when I hear the people say that God's sovereignty is limited by human freedom is that people really haven't thought much about it. Perhaps they've heard somebody else say it, and they're just repeating it because if they've thought about it for five minutes, they would realize that the limit is not on God, but on us. We are free, but our freedom is always and everywhere limited by God's freedom. It is God who is sovereign, not us. We get our identity from being made in the image of God. God is not made in the image of man. He's the one who is sovereign, we are not. Our humanity is defined by him.
