Our First Priority

Jesus hasn’t left His people with ambiguous priorities. Today, R.C. Sproul identifies the consuming priority of the Christian life: seeking first the kingdom of God.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and everything else, all these things, will be added unto you.” He used the Greek word protos for the word “first,” which means in the Greek not just first in a sequence or in a chronological order, but first in terms of importance. What Jesus is saying is that the consuming priority of the Christian life is to be seeking the kingdom of God, searching for the city of God, being involved in a passionate quest for that which is promised to us in our future.
Beloved, we need to know where we’re headed. That’s why it’s important for you to be knowledgeable and cognizant of the destiny that God describes here for His people. Keep your eyes focused on the city of God. That’s where we’re going. That’s where we’re headed. And if we understand that that is our destination, we won’t tend to get lost and roam all over the place, but we will stay in the way of Christ.
