Take Up and Read

Is the Bible really the Word of God? Can the Scriptures truly be trusted? Today, R.C. Sproul encourages those struggling with these questions to read and study the Bible diligently for themselves.
If you are struggling with the question of the authority of the Bible, the trustworthiness of the Bible, the truthfulness of the Bible, is the Bible the Word of God, I would give to you the same advice that Augustine heard centuries ago: take up and read.
Take up and read. Immerse yourselves in the Scripture. Think deeply about what the Scripture is saying to you and see if you do not hear the ring of truth. See if you do not see the consent of the Bible with all of its parts fitting together in an incredibly detailed way. I’m amazed at the nuances of Scripture and how in all these tiny details, they fit together with so much symmetry, intricacy woven together in the symmetry.
Again, I don’t ask you to shut off your mind when you read the Scripture; I ask you to turn it on. There’s no time that we ought to be more alert or more diligent in our study than when we are reading the Scriptures. You have nothing to fear from a deep, deep study of the Word of God.
