For four hundred years, the prophets in Israel had been silent. Then suddenly, a man emerged from the wilderness, announcing the arrival of the kingdom of God. John the Baptist revived the prophetic ministry of Elijah by calling the Hebrews to repent of their sins. He also fulfilled the Old Testament prophecy of a forerunner who would prepare God’s people for the long-awaited Messiah. In this message, Dr. R.C. Sproul explains the significant role that John the Baptist played at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry.
