The ancient Romans executed thousands of convicted criminals by means of crucifixion. To most onlookers, Jesus’ death on the cross was anything but unique. Pontius Pilate viewed it as the elimination of a revolutionary, while Jerusalem’s religious leaders saw Christ’s death as the means of preserving their threatened authority. Ultimately, however, this crucifixion was unlike any other. On the cross, Jesus bore the curse of God to atone for the sins of His people. In this message, Dr. R.C. Sproul explains what Christ accomplished by His death, the central event in the history of redemption.
