The book of Joshua records the Israelites’ conquest of Canaan, the land that God had promised to Abraham and the patriarchs. These bloody events raise important questions. Did God really sanction the mass killing of pagans—men, women, and children? How should we understand this holy war in light of Jesus’ emphasis on love and grace? In this message, Dr. R.C. Sproul considers what the book of Joshua teaches us about the judgment of God against sin and about our need for Christ, who alone can give us a safe entrance into God’s holy presence.
