In 1 Chronicles' long list of names, the author included an answered prayer of a man named Jabez (4:10). Prosperity-gospel movements have pointed to this prayer as a template for getting what you want from God. There is more to Jabez's story, however, than a simple answered prayer. There is much to learn about biblical hope and God's promises from this unfamiliar person in the Bible. In this lesson, Dr. Thomas examines the prayer of Jabez to highlight his character and to demonstrate why this prayer cannot be used as a template for the prosperity gospel.
