Simon of Cyrene

Simon was a man from North Africa who lived in Cyrene. He was in Jerusalem for Passover, and as he was standing by the road observing Jesus' march to Golgotha, Jesus fell to the ground right in front of him. The Roman soldiers forced Simon to carry Jesus' cross. God providentially gave Simon a crucial role of assisting Jesus during His crucifixion. Because of this, he became well known in the early church. In this lesson, Dr. Thomas explains Simon's significance for the early church because of his example of taking up one's cross and following Christ.
