After expressing his affection for the Philippian church and praying for them to abound more and more in their love for one another, Paul proceeds in Philippians 1:12–14 to describe how God is at work in his present circumstances. From a human perspective, Paul has experienced a major setback. From a supernatural perspective, God is at work, creating exciting new opportunities for the spread of the gospel. Paul’s summary of this surprising turn of events offers encouragement to believers in all ages who yearn to see the good news of Jesus Christ spread to the ends of the earth.
