After urging the Philippian believers to turn away from their selfishness and conceit to live as a more united community, Paul presents to them the ultimate example of humility and sacrifice: the life and death of Jesus Christ. Even though Christ’s atoning death is unique and believers are not called on to die in the same way that Jesus did, the life and death of Jesus nevertheless serves as a model of the kind of humility and service that His followers are called to imitate. In this lesson, Dr. Lawson examines a familiar passage in which the humble sacrifice of Jesus bids us also to lay everything down for Him.
