As Paul concludes the second chapter of his letter to the Philippian church, he refers to the illness and recovery of Epaphroditus, the messenger sent to him by the Philippian believers. Aware that the Philippians had been deeply distressed to learn of their brother’s illness, Paul highlights Epaphroditus’ selfless demeanor as a prime example of the Christian humility that he has been teaching them about throughout this letter. Planning to send this letter to the Philippians in Epaphroditus’ own hands, Paul commends this humble servant-leader to them as a man worthy of their sincere honor and respect.
